5 hacks to boost your productivity by x100

People get shocked when they hear that I’m a dentist who’s working in digital marketing.

To begin with, I’m not here to say that I’m one of a kind or so.

I struggled for years trying to find a balance and manage my own time.

And still.

Man, it sucks when you have a lot to do on your plate but you have no idea where to start from.

However, as I went further down the line, I followed some steps that actually made me able to produce more in less time.

I still get burnt out from time to time, still procrastinate and waste some hours scrolling helplessly through my IG feed.

However, What’s different now is that I accepted the fact that after all, I’m a human, not a machine !

1- You’re not a machine !

I know this sounds crazy, but the first step towards producing more is accepting the fact that sometimes it’s ok to produce less.

Enduring this forgivable state of mind will boost your productivity like x10.

This stems from a simple idea, that when you accept your limitations as a human being, you actually free yourself from the restrictive pressure of perfectionism.

To say the least, your “free you” is x1000 more productive, be free, endure your humanity.

2- Subdivided scary tasks are no longer scary

Human psychology can be tricky sometimes.

Remember the last time you had a tough task that you kept procrastinating, maybe an article or a design.

Your mind can block you easily from actually doing the task by bringing a stream of thoughts about how difficult it is and suggesting to do it later when you’re “ready”.

But guess what, you will never be ready.

There’s no such perfect time.

Waiting to be inspired or “feel like doing it” will last forever.

The alternative is to subdivide.

You can trick your tricky mind by dividing the bigger task into multiple smaller tasks.

Thinking about tackling those smaller tasks will not stimulate the restrictive stream of thoughts that we mentioned earlier.

Instead, your mind will be helpless, as it will not be able to convince you that this small task isn’t doable.

And by consistently sticking to doing those smaller task on a daily basis, the bigger picture will eventually be painted.

3- Find your “why”

As simple as it sounds.

Why are you here reading an article about productivity?

Why do you want to be more productive?

Are you following a certain path?

Do you have a list of weekly, monthly, yearly or long-term goals?

Do you have a family to feed? maybe you’re planning to buy a new care, a new house.

Maybe you just want to feel better about yourself, or prove to your parents that you’re a good son, or to your wife that you’re a good husband.

Regardless of what your “why” is and even it didn’t make sense to anyone but you, keep it in the back of your mind when you wake up in the morning.

When you have a reason to wake up in the morning, daily tasks become 100000 times easier.

Always remember, when you feel lost and overwhelmed, your “why” is the answer.

4- Create your own viscous cycle

Have you ever read about Pomodoro technique?

I’m sure you did.

If you didn’t, this technique is all about working for 25 minutes intervals and taking regular 5-minutes breaks in between.

It has been studied and used widely throughout the world.

However, what I found is that 25 minutes is not a holy number.

It has been proven by studies that each one of us has his own attention span.

The bare minimum is 25 minutes, however, your attention span can be longer than this.

I know people who can focus in what they’re doing for around 40–50 minutes. Would it be good for them to stop at the 25 minutes limit and take a break?

I don’t think so.

Find your attention span and stick to it, follow Pomodoro’s technique concept by taking regular short breaks in between, and thank me later.

5- Track, measure and celebrate

Tracking your progress is crucial.

How are you going to know whether you’re on track or not without having a clear tracking process running in the background?

When you start monitoring your progress towards your bigger goals, it will be easy for you to keep pushing.

Knowing that you’re successfully tackling those smaller tasks gives you a great sense of accomplishment. A feeling that we all need to continue playing the game of life.
